WHO TOLD YOU THAT YOU WERE THAT....

Or better yet who didn’t tell you who you were?  I was in church yesterday serving and in my section I noticed a young man.  He was taller than me, had way more hair than me, currently cut into a box fade.  He was a young man full of energy that could not have been more than 17 years old.  That is what I saw, and then he and the young lady he was with asked me a question.  His voice came out in a soft feminine way; a tone that I must say startled me at first.  I began to notice subtleties of how he carried himself, how he held his hands how he rolled his eyes at some of the things the young lady stated to him.  My heart began to hurt as I began to see him duplicate obviously how he perceived a woman to act.  It began to make me think about the generation we are living in and question, why through-out my lifetime I had seen a shift in our culture that said it was normal even "cool" for people to feel comfortable with being something other than what God designed them to be.

I began to pray for the young man, and along with that began to think through how this could have happened.  The question that popped in my head was who told this young man that he should act like a woman.  Then a better question popped in my spirit.  WHO DIDN’T  tell this young man that he was a man, destine to raise a son or daughter of his own and speak life into them.  In Genesis  1 the bible says he was created in Gods own image, created him as a male and a female as a female.  Who didn’t tell him that God’s first command to him and the future wife in his life was to “be fruitful and multiply”.
Now before you tune me out.  Let me say this.  My point of view is based solely on the bible.  This as you will soon read is not a homosexual thing, but a Father thing.  I believe that we are witnessing the effects of fathers not being present physically or emotionally in the home.  It causes so many conflicts in society.
I am only assuming but maybe like me there was not a father in his life, or a strong father figure in his life.  Yes, I know what assuming makes you so I will give you the facts stated from people who have studied the matter more than I have:
· “I have worked with thousands of homosexuals. I have never seen a homosexual who had a loving respectful relationship with his father.” - Dr. Joseph Nicolosi
· “Boys who grow up in father absent homes are more likely than those in father present homes to have trouble establishing appropriate sex roles and gender identity.” - P.L. Adams, J.R. Milner, Fatherless Children
Here are some of the other facts I found.
  • 85% of the people incarcerated came from fatherless homes
  • 71% of the dropouts came from fatherless homes
  • 63% of the suicides came from fatherless homes.
The list goes on and on.  So here is my point to all this.  We are living in a generation that has been effected by fathers not being in their place, and I will go as far to say that even when fathers are in the home sometimes they are not in their place. So why is it so important for men to be in the household.  I watched a movie called “Courageous” which was a very eye opening experience.  I really felt I was a good father but this movie showed me how much I could really improve.  The main thing I saw though was that it was important for fathers to speak life and purpose into their children’s life.  Throughout the bible there are examples of fathers who spoke purpose and life to their children.  The names that they gave their children would become part of their identity.  The crafts that the father took on were taught to their children.  Jesus was a carpenter, just like his earthly father Joseph.  Since the beginning God has given man the ability to call out purpose into thing he had made man covering for.  Adam named Eve woman “because she was bone of my bone and flesh of my flesh” and “because she was taken out of man” [Genesis 2:23].  The word woman designated the special gifts that every woman encompasses.  A man will never be able to do what a woman can do.  That gift has been given to every man.  We have the power to speak “life and death”.  That is what our Father in heaven has spoken into our lives.
This is a plea to all men to as my co-host (Christian comedian) Deon Mr. Dynamite Miller says, man up.  I believe if we do a better job at getting and keeping fathers back in the homes, we will see in change in our generation for the better.  Children come from a man and a women, it is the only way they come to this earth.  With that in mind, since both male and female have contribution to making the child, should it not be obvious how important it is for both of them to impart into their children.  I met my own father at the age of 35, which really solidified this point to me.  Although I had never spent any time with him until then, I immediately notice certain things in my life that were parallel to his life.  Even though I grew up saying I would not be like my father.  I found that I was like him.  Imagine if he were there to show me how not to make the same mistakes he made.  I believe God can change the damage that has already been done, but we can start doing this fatherhood thing right.  Even if you are like me and cannot physically be in your children’s life 24/7 I challenge you to find a way to spend more time, quality time with them.  I challenge you to take the time and get yourself in line with God’s purpose for your life and then in turn speak and teach purpose in your children’s life.  Tell them who they are every day.  Don’t let the world, their friends, their community, or their own flesh tell them who they are.  Gather direction from God and give it to them.  You have the power to do that.
Finally if you are a single mother, with sons, like I said earlier I was a product of a household that only had my mom in it.  Although growing up without a father, didn’t affect me in the same way it did the young man I mentioned earlier.  It did affect me in so many other ways.  But God!  God gave me a mom, who realized I needed a strong male role model in my life.  She introduced me to the boy’s scouts, boys clubs which help to define some of my man hood.  They could not do all of what my father was meant to do, but they helped to instill some identity in me.  So single mothers start there find positive male role models to help influence your sons, if the father in his life is not available.  More importantly, make sure he is involved in a good church home, and encourage him to read the Word of God so that his heavenly father can help impart in him, who he really is.  Offer your children back to God as Hannah did in 1 Samuel 1.
I encourage you to make comments and share!  Thanks all for reading.  FATHERS STAND UP!

DON'T GET CAUGHT WITH YOUR PANTS DOWN!

Every day I hear Christians talk about the day’s festivities.  Sometimes it’s a good day depending on how it went but sometimes we discuss how stressful the day could have been due to stresses at work, stresses with family friends, finances, and any number of attacks we all receive during the day.  During my meditation, I asked why this happens to us when we pray, we read our Bibles, and we listen to encouraging messages and music, everything we know to do.  Well the answer I heard in my spirit was to “PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD!”  That answer came to me early this morning waking me up out of my comfortable sleep.  I felt conviction when I heard it.  Now if you have been in church any amount of time you may have read or heard this scripture.  If not, I pray you will take another look at it today.

The Armor of God
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people EPH 6:10-18
In my case, and what I feel maybe a lot of what other Christians deal with on a daily bases is that word FULL.  Imagine waking up and only putting on a few garments each day.  Today, I have on a nice hat, nice shoes and that’s it.  Awkward picture huh.  Or the next day let’s say you have the pants on but forgot the belt and your pants keep falling down.   Even better, let’s say you are going to battle and you forget your sword, or your helmet.  The thing that is resonating in my spirit is the fact that we need the FULL outfit.  Every peace has a function in getting us though the day.  It’s not sufficient to just put on the convenient parts of our armor or just the parts of our armor we find easiest for us to put on.  For example, some of us are prayer warriors, and we feel we can pray everything away.  Some of us gravitate more to praise and worship, some of us lean more to reading the word of God, all of which are good, but God said put on the FULL armor of GOD to stand against the DEVILS schemes.  Every battle we face will not be handled by just one piece of armor every time.  The enemy will attach from different directions, point of views, people, problems, past memories (you get the picture).  You need to be fully covered at all times and ready to fight back!  To save time, I won’t go into the meanings of all the pieces of the armor of God, but I dare you to research it for yourself.  Very interesting study!  I will however challenge you to take time before you continue your day, to make sure you grab every piece of your armor and put it on.  The devil is after your peace and joy.  PROTECT IT WITH THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD!

SEE YOUR PROBLEMS IN THE NUDE?!

Stop focusing on the people & problems in your life.  The bible shows us clearly that our battle is spiritual and it should be fought in a spiritual way.  I know it is hard to imagine…might sound a little SCI-FI but I am learning everyday this to be true.  When I try to handle things without putting on my spiritual armor, or in laymen terms, praying, studying my word, praising and worshiping God I find myself having anxiety over the storms in my life.  I begin to sink into the ocean and problems of life.  When I start to sink though, I am learning to turn my focus back to Christ (Matt 14)!  So today if you are going through something at work, at home, in your finances, instead of focusing on the coworker or the boss that is getting on your last nerve; the wife or husband who just does not seem to get you;, or the money that seems to just not be enough, stop looking at it with your physical eyes and see these thing for what they really are.  Learn to reach for Christ first, through prayer, worship & praise, and studying his word.  Put on your favorite Gospel song for example, or begin to hum it if you are not allowed to listen to music at work, but do whatever you can to reach out to Christ, and watch what happens.
When giving speeches sometimes people say to relieve anxiety of being in front of so many people imagine the audience in the nude or find one person in the audience or a specific spot to focus on in the back of the crowd and that will help lesson your anxiety.  (LOL)Well I am saying imagine your situation in the nude, without the flesh on it, and focus on the ONE that matters JESUS CHRIST!
I dare you!

FLAVA FLAV

MATTHEW 5; 13-16
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
We are to be the salt of the world and a light in darkness Christian.  I meditated more on this scripture this morning, and here is what God prompted in my spirit.  First of all let’s discuss salt.  When I think of salt the first thing that comes to mind is flava (ok flavor but you know what I meant).  I purposely used Flava, because that is the urban colloquium we use now to describe our style, the thing that makes you different or you, you!  My morning manna message for you all today is to just be who God made you to be in this world; just be who you are in Christ.  Here is what I mean.  If you can sing, keep singing but sing what you know about Christ and what Christ is doing in your life.  This is you showing your light to the world.  God gave you a special style of singing, a voice that attracts an audience so use it to be a light to this dark world, to say something that God can use to change someone’s life forever!  Ok another example.  Maybe you are like me and you are not a singer.  Maybe you have a great personality.  Maybe your salt is that everyone who meets you is attracted to your bubbly personality.  When they do come to you be light of Christ.  Do I mean preach to them every time you see them?  No, do that only as the spirit leads, but I do mean, continue to exude the fruits of what God is doing in your life.  Be trustworthy, patient, kind hearted and everything else God has made you to be in Christ.  Bottom line many people believe that God wants you not to be you when we accept Jesus as our Lord and savior.  I believe that is the furthest from the truth.  I believe God made you the way you are for a reason.  To add FLAVA to this world and to attract more people with YOUR LIGHT to the Kingdom of GOD!

Check Your Self Before You Wreck Yourself!

Over the past few days God has been showing me examples of how we as people can sometimes do the right thing for the wrong reasons.  Over life, something in me has always motivated me to check myself about the reasons I do the things I do.  I realize that God cares about the heart of why you do the things you do not just things you do.  As I stated this topic has been on my heart all week and I tell you God is faithful to answer us if we just listen.  For example today, I woke up to a message from “God Tube” (a scripture email devotional I receive everyday) in which the scripture of the day came from Matthew 5:17-20.  In verse 20 Jesus speaks specifically to the practice of a lot of the Pharisees of that time who did good things but did them to be seen favorably by PEOPLE.  They did what they did to have a good name and not for the love of God or the people they were doing it for.  Jesus is found throughout the New Testament rebuking these teachers of the law a lot of the time because of this exact reason.  HE KNEW THERE HEART!  My point is this, do what you do out of love and you can never go wrong.  Your love for God will be expressed by the love you show your brothers and sisters daily.  I implore you to always check yourself; check your motives; check why you do the things you do.  Is it to be seen doing good, is it to hide the fact that you have struggles in your own life, is it for money profit or gain.  No matter what your motive is, if your primary motives are not pure it is all for not.  It may look good to people, but not to the God we love and serve.
Stay Encouraged!  Have an extra blessed day and remember that if we keep LOVE (AGAPE) in all that we do we can never go wrong!
