Should we celebrate the execution of another man even if it is Osama Bin Laden

Let me first start by saying I love the country God blessed me to live in!  My brother proudly serves in the Army fighting bravely to help maintain our freedom.  Let me also say like the majority of the world, I was deeply effected by the heinous acts that occurred on 9/11.  My heart goes out to everyone who lost someone that day and the many days to follow, due to the war on terrorism.  I can also say that I am happy that our armed forces found the mastermind behind these terrorist act.

My questions however is how as Christians can we celebrate the death of any one in the manner that we have over the past week.  Don't get me wrong,  I really have nothing against him dieing.  I am sure it was out of necessity given the circumstances, however something deep in my spirit had a hard time watching people gather in celebration over the death of Osama.  Here are a few reasons of concern.

As Christians we have a mandate to strive to be Christ like.  We always throw this saying around but  "what would Jesus do"?  I am hard pressed to find anything in the bible showing Jesus celebrating someones death! His desire is for all of us to have an opportunity to be saved.  Even Osama!  So I am pretty sure that his reaction would not be that of celebrations.

Secondly are we to believe that the war on terrorism is done with the death Osama.  Although I know God has my back and I have know reason to fear anyone or anything on this earth, why would we want to incite rage from our enemies by celebrating the death of one of there people.

Finally, as Christians we should be the examples to this world; the light that prevails in darkness.  We should bare the fruit of the spirit, LOVE, PATIENCE, LONG SUFFERING just to name a few.

In conclusion, this situations has shown us how accustom we have gotten to experience death.  God said that vengeance is His.  There is absolutely no need for us to celebrate the death of our enemies, but we have every reason to go to God in prayer to intercede for everyone who does not know Jesus as their Lord and Savior!

  1. I agree Shelton. It is important that we remain grounded even in situations as emotionally driven as this. I won't lose any sleep over his death but it is not fitting for us as believers to celebrate and gloat over someone's death. If OBL died without knowing Jesus as his savior he will end up in the lake of fire. Knowing that God's desire it that all would be saved we cannot rejoice in someone that died in sin...wether it's OBL or a family member.
